Soon

Soon, my children delight in reminding me daily, we will begin our homeschooling adventure officially. Just one week from now, we will begin our Kindergarten year. I am so very excited and so are the children. Sarah especially!

Everyday, they look at the calendar and count how many days until our first real day of school. Oh, we've 'done school' many times before. It's all been practice, though, for this year. Come September, the other children in the neighborhood will get on school buses and leave their parents for too many hours while my children will stay home. More exactly, we'll actually be doing some really fun stuff this September, trying to fit in some great trips before the baby comes. So perhaps I'm not being entirely accurate to say they'll be staying home!

We'll start our school year by having one good field trip each week until the baby comes. Things like the Crayola Factory, the Bronx Zoo (maybe twice), the beach, and I'm not sure what else. Baby is scheduled to join us on September 23rd, so maybe these 4 trips are enough ;)

I've got many of my lessons set up for our first month and I'll be setting up month 2 and maybe even 3 before baby comes, so it will all be easy. Okay, I don't think it's going to be easy at all, but I'm hopeful!

Well, thanks for reading my ramblings. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to keep you updated here as days go by, but I won't promise it. It's a promise to easily broken. But I'll try! :)

Kindergarten only takes about an hour a day to teach and learn, so you should be able to fit it in nicely, even with a newborn little baby to take care of. :-) You can do it, Sandie!

Actually, Kindergarten for us is more first grade-ish. We're filling in some kindergarten gaps, but really, all of them are so ready to move on. School time for us is more like 2 - 3 hours, but some of that they can do on their own. (Thanks, by the way, for the workboxes idea you posted . . . a long time ago. It's what makes this all work for us!) So I think you might be right, about one hours worth working directly with me. And much of that can be done while snuggling baby! Thanks for the encouragement!
