When did you learn that?!
While exploring the properties of magnets this morning, Josie tried to get hers to stick to the wooden kitchen cabinet door. Her remark: "Mommy, this not workin' so good . . ."
While I was going through the mail today, Katie watched, hoping for bits of junk mail, which I allow my children to play with and then throw away. I was looking at a postcard coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond when she exclaimed "20!" "When did you learn to recognize that number," I asked in surprise. "Two, zero. Twenty," she replied casually.
Last night, the children stayed up late because they wanted to see Daddy when he got home. After the fun reunion he had to leave again for an hour or so, and I went about the task of putting my cranky babies to sleep. Sarah came to me, whining and teary, with her play telephone, which looks remarkably like our real telephone. When I asked her what was wrong, my darling little one year old replied, clear as can be, "Momma . . . No Beckie!" and then broke into such pitiful tears.
**Note: Beckie is my sister. We talk with her almost every day.

Three Beautiful Things: Fast, Friends and Ready
Sarah is growing much faster that I am usually aware. Last night she devoured half a bowl of peas. I didn't realize she could eat them whole like that already! I had been mushing them up for her, but she was much happier doing it all herself. I wonder what else she can do?
Katie and Josie have become such good friends with their cousin Angie. And you can tell that Angie loves playing with them because she gets so very excited to see them and upset to leave them. I'm so glad my children have a nearby cousin to play with!
Tonight's dinner is ready to go and it has been since about 2:00. Very little work needs to be done right before we eat and it is truly a beautiful thing to know that I won't be rushed a hurried and unable to relax and enjoy a meal with my family! Perhaps I should prepare like this more often . . .

Three Beautiful Things:
Clean Iron
Sleepy Face
There is nothing like the sight of a cast iron pan that has just been washed and seasoned. It's so shiny and full of gastronomical possibilities!
Sleepy Face
Sarah invariably winds up in bed with Sam and I by morning. It's usually only a couple of hours, but there is something so sweet about waking up to her sleeping face.Rising Steam
I was so grateful for my cup of coffee this morning. With the kids playing in the other room I savored the moment by taking a breath of fresh coffee steam before sipping. Perfect!
