I was chatting this evening with Katie while I made dinner and somehow or other the conversation turned to our ages.
"Well," I said, "Sarah is one, you are two,"
"And Josie is two, and you are two, and Father is two," Katie interrupted. (Yes, she likes to call him Father . . .)
So I told her how old I really am.
"Mommy!" She said, her voice dripping with disbelief. I reassured her that I wasn't crazy. Then I told her how old her Daddy is.
Her face took on a look of deeply concerned concentration. After a moment or two she looked at me with such compassion.
"Don't give up on Father, yet, Mommy!"
