Christmas Fun

It took us two and a half days to finish. Babies are very slow about opening their gifts. After all . . . when you see a toy, you've just got to get your hands in there and play with it!

Christmas Eve, we set out cookies and milk for Santa and left him a little note, thanking him for visiting us. Daddy said that Santa's favorite cookies were certainly the peanut butter kind that Mommy makes, so we left him three on a Christmas platter.

Earlier that day, Munga and Papa had come by to watch them open the big gift they had gotten for all the little ones. It was a play kitchen! So, Christmas morning, when they ran out of their room, Katie and Josie headed right for the big new toy they had seen yesterday. They didn't even notice that our kitchen was covered in presents! A few minutes of coaxing had them ripping through some paper, which Katie gently handed to her Daddy, and discovering all the fun things Santa brought, thanks to Mommy's great cookies . . .

We had to stop them around 10:30 because we had lots of places to go. First, we were off to Aunt Beckie's house where we had even more fun opening gifts and playing with things. Again, they take so long that we had to load some unopened gifts into the van and head over to Munga Jordan's house, where Sarah fell in love with the dogs! They have a little Boston Terrier (named Gabby) who is just the right size and, though she didn't really want anything to do with the people in the room, she became very difficult to hang on to when this dog ran by. Gabby didn't really want much to do with Sarah. Sarah isn't very gentle and can get kind of loud. But Sinbad, the boxer, was happy to lick her to within an inch of her life! She was delighted by the attention and happily kissed him back. (I kept cringing and washing her all evening!)

Katie and Josie were all wrapped up in the kitty that would tease them from the stairs. "Hello, Kitty!" they would shout from the bottom, trying to coax it within petting range. Daddy showed them how to get kitty closer and they got to play with the usually very shy cat.

Lots more presents later, we took three tired babies home for bed. All the next day and part of the day after that, we slowly made our way through gift after gift. They are delighted with everything and I've even got a bunch of stuff put aside so we can enjoy it later. The excess is amazing.

Some of their favorite gifts are the MagnaDoodles which let them draw whenever they like without fear of messes, the play kitchen along with the accessories that Munga Jordan found for them, and the books they were given by Aunt Jennie and by Santa. (Jen . . . Great choices! We've read Peek-A-Boo and Bear Hunt tons of times already. They love them. I'm certain Jamberry will be a favorite very soon too!)

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

Ha! Two and a half days is a sure sign that you bought too much! I did that to poor Brenna her first couple of Christmases, but this one was the best Christmas ever and it was because we got fewer gifts than ever. I was so grateful, even though I know my MIL was feeling like she didn't give enough this year. I'm sending her a note thanking her particularly for just one gift each.

As for the books, I picked some of Rosie's favorites, figuring if she enjoyed them so very much, yours, not too much younger, would too. I'm glad they are so well loved already!
