Before the Sun

I'm never up before the sun. I love to sleep in each morning, lazily indulging the baby-of-the-family in me. I'm spoiled and I know it. It only hurts me, though, because I always feel so behind in my day.

This morning, however, I was up before the sun. It was dark out, the coffee had just finished brewing and all was quiet. I got dressed, took out the garbage, because I hadn't remembered it the night before, and stood in the kitchen, sipping my coffee, and watching the sun peek over a distant ridge. A big, beautiful, orange ball, it smiled at me, happy, I'm sure, that I was there to greet it. I was equally grateful for the peaceful moment to appreciate such a simple pleasure. And my day has been so much better for it!
