As per the instructions in a fantastic book I now own called "Slow And Steady, Get Me Ready" I took an empty coffee can yesterday, cut the bottom out of it with a can opener and filed the edges down so there was nothing sharp on it. I cut a hole in the plastic lid just wide enough to fit our fattest ball through and put that on the newly opened bottom (because the top came with a finger-safe edge I thought I'd leave that exposed instead of risking my home-made edge). Then I collected together all of our small plastic balls, which for some reason we have a lot of, and showed the kids how to put one through the hole and pick up the can to find it.
According to the book, this activity is meant for my younger baby who is 9 months old, and she certainly did enjoy the activity, when she could get her hands on it. Katie and Josie were having trouble taking turns, they were having so much fun playing 'Peek-A-Boo' with the sneaky little balls! Sarah ended up contenting herself with two balls that she could hold and bang together.
I'm going to have to let Sarah try it again when Katie and Josie are still napping.

I'll have to try that one with Angie, too. We've been playing with two cups, some colored water and an eye dropper. The goal: transfer the water from one cup to the other via the eye dropper. She loves playing with water (we do it in the kitche so spills aren't a disaster) and we've also been exploring how to pour water slowly from one cup to another without spilling. I think I was just too impatient the first time I tried using the activities.
