Something Old, Something New

No, no one is getting married . . . But, we were the proud and excited recipients of two items yesterday.

Thanks to the fantastic FreeCycle community, we were able to get Sam a CPap machine that looks something like this:

(Sorry that came out so huge . . .)

We haven't been able to get one because we've been battling our insurance company for it and they are far to expensive to purchase on our own. This one, though the display doesn't function properly, will work for us until we can either buy one ourselves or resolve our issues with insurance. We just have to get it to the sleep clinic so they can adjust it for Sam. (There is no way for a patient to adjust the machine. There is a special device that plugs in to allow the clinician to set pressure and frequency of breaths on the machine. It is currently set too fast and too high.)

Also, my book came in the mail. Recommended by my sister Jennie, I purchased "Slow And Steady Get Me Ready" for my kids. Reading through it, I'm a little sad that I didn't get it sooner. Many of the things in the book I did with my kids when they were small, but it would have been nice to be organized about it. I'm looking forward to some of the activities listed for each of my babies ages and I think the older babies will have fun with the younger baby games, too.

I most likely won't get to post again until Sunday due to Thanksgiving being tomorrow, Sam's birthday is Friday, and Saturday we are off to cousin Nick's for a second Thanksgiving. Busy, busy, busy!

I hope you all have a very safe and wonderful holiday!

What exactly does this thing do? Force him to regulate his breathing? Does it work with a mask or something?

Yes, jennie, that's pretty much what it does. He has sleep apnea which means he doesn't ever get to that deep sleep that allows you to actually rest and as a consequence he's always tired. This machine is supposed to correct that.

I too got the slow and stead get me ready book when angie was quite small, and leafing though it was thrilled with some of the ideas. Some of them I though were too advanced for certain ages, and others, I couldn't get angie to sit still for. But it's good to have a place to go for ideas.
