Amazed

I am always so amazed by what my children learn to do. Sarah . . . 9 month old Sarah, is starting to stand on her own. She's letting go of things more and more, practicing her balance. She can talk, too. She very clearly says "Hi!" at appropriate times and whenever I say "I love you" to anyone, she pipes up with "Ayoo!"

Also, after dinner every night we have bath time for the babies. To help get the twins moving to the bath instead of playing, Sam taught the twins to put their arms up high over their heads and shout "Bath time!" and then run down the call to the bathroom. Sarah now knows that this is coming and when she is finished eating, she throws her arms up and says "Ah-Die" which I think is pretty good for a new talker!

Katie and Josie are stringing more and more words together and are nearly speaking in full sentences. They repeat everything they hear and eat up any information they can get an adult to impart. Their hungry little minds don't take much time off. In the mornings when they wake up, Josie can be heard shouting "Mommy, I'm ready!" and Katie helps out during the day by telling me when their cups are empty. They are so eager to lend a helping hand. It's a challenge for me to find more things for them to do.

Does anyone out there have any ideas for chores that a couple of 21 month old babies can do? They already throw dirty diapers away for me, carry their trays to their high chairs and wipe up the table after a meal. Other ideas would be great!

Just let them help with whatever you are doing. Make sure you have plenty of step stools so they can reach counters and sinks. Rosie is forever dragging around kitchen chairs. They make what they call a learning tower, which is basically a really sturdy platform with sides around it so kids can help without danger of falling. They are expensive, but it might be worth looking into. You'll find them at montessori-type companies.

yes, I let angie help with lots of stuff...she helped put groceries on the counter the other day (as the non-working video on my blog attests); she helps pick out her clothes in the mornign, helps me make my bed, gets her shoes out of the closet to go outside and puts them away when we come back in. In short, she helps with just about everything that isn't dangerous.
