The Angklung

What is an angklung?? I'm so very glad you asked. It's one of many strange and cool instruments I have in my collection. (and a big reason why we have a room very nearly dedicated to music!)

Here is a picture of the instrument:

There are actually 8 different frames resting on a holder. Each frame has three bamboo chimes on it, tuned in thirds. (That means that a "C" frame has C, E, and G chimes.)

It's really very fun to play and great in a group. You can give each person one or two frames and play it as a group would play handbells.

Here are some links to other photos of the instrument and some information about it.

Next time you are in the mood for a little funky music making, come on over! We'll have some fun with the anklung.

See, now, the kids you would think you are quite the fun aunt...if only they got to see you!

I wish I got to see them too! I'd love to be the fun aunt . . . and I think I'd be pretty good at it. And with all the wierd instruments I have we could start our own kids band!

I'd be the anything-goes aunt. When there are kids in large numbers, I just practice crowd control! (Large numbers is more than one added to what I've already got!) I'd serve lots of snacks, too, because eating kids are quiet kids.
