I'm Alive!

I've been considering my returning post for a few days now. I haven't been sure what topic to begin with, since lots has happened. For now, though, I think I'll settle on a quick report of how we are all doing (I'm expecting Sarah to wake up soon, so I can't stay too long).

Today is the first time since I came home from the hospital that I've been alone with all three babies. Because I'm not supposed to be picking up the twins until Friday, I've had someone here with me 24 hours a day. Mommy, Beckie, Marian (my mother-in-law), Daddy, they've all taken turns helping me when Sam can't be home. But today I decided that I could handle some time with the three of them by myself. I love everyone dearly, but it's been so nice to have some time "alone." I put that in quotes because, as Sam reminded me earlier today, I'm never actually alone. I have lots of little people to keep me company.

Now, about me not picking up my children, I knew as soon as the doctor said the words that it wasn't going to work very well. And sure enough, my first day home, I was picking them up. But how can I ignore my kids when they so sweetly and needily (is that a word, Grammar Police?) walk over to me with their arms up? I was careful at first, mostly because it hurt when I wasn't careful, but now I'm doing quite well and can grab them from just about anywhere. The only thing that worries me is what do I do if the twins are grumpy and needy the same time that Sarah needs to be fed or held?

And speaking of feeding Sarah, so far that has gone very well. Again, I've had lots of help lately and haven't had to worry to much about taking care of the twins while I'm feeding Sarah, but today I managed to feed Sarah, Katie and Josie all at the same time!

I think that's enough rambling for now. I'll post some Sarah pictures as soon as I download them from my camera!

It's amazing what you can do while nursing a baby. Rosie was a particularly frequent nusrser...almost always latched on. I actually learned how to chop potatoes with one hand. (It's very dangerous, so don't try it unless you are out of options, and DO NOT RUSH!) That was my new super-mommy skill. :) Glad things are going well.

Hope it all went well, and even though you were looking for some "alone" time, if you need a hand, you know I'll be happy to lend the only free one I have. . .
