I usually time my vacuuming for when the girls are just waking up from their nap. It's something I manage to coordinate once a week, but no more often than that. And with the two of them picking up every little bit of anything they can find, I really needed to find a better solution, especially since their high chairs, and their for their crumbs, happen to be in our dining area which is on our rug!
Today I got a carpet sweeper. No noise, no cord or battery, just a couple of brushes that roll and flick little bits of things into a dirt tray. I was going to get the Swiffer Carpet Flick thing, but after researching it online, I could find very few positive comments about it. I got a Bissell Perfect Sweeper. And it is quite perfect. It took me a minute to figure out the best way to get it to pick up everything (you have to push it down a little into the carpet to get it to work really well) but once I got that down, I got up all the crumbs with no worries of scaring my babies, who are very afraid of my vacuum! It also works great on my kitchen floor too! Better than my broom and dust pan. I didn't have to bend down with my awkward belly to use the dust pan . . . everything is trapped in two easy to empty trays!
All in all, this was an excellent purchase and I'm excited about being able to easily and consistently keep my floors clean! I'll be more likely to let my babies crawl around in other rooms of the house now!

I used and loved a carpet sweeper when I had bare floors, actually. I never really liked it on carpets, but I have found that I can vacuum while baby naps as long as I start as far away from her as possible. She won't even notice the noise right outside her door. Of course, you also have to gradually fade away, back to where you started before shutting off, or the sudden silence will wake her. I've been vacuuming every day for four or five years, because I hate all the little things that stick to the carpet. Makes the room look really messy, IMO. Glad you found something that works for you.
