I've been reading. A lot. I've devoured several books that have given me the confidence and the tools to help my children reach their amazing potential, or at least get them started towards it.
I had planned on beginning our new activities on Monday, but when I told the children of my plan, their excitement filled the house and I thought, "No time like the present!"
Though our Saturday was already filled with plans, I delayed them a bit to make sure we could fit in a few extras. At the end of breakfast, while the children were still seated, we reviewed some of the trickier shapes, for Sarah's benefit, and we went through some number flash cards to help them all recognize double digit numbers, which has been a bit of a sticking point for us once we get past 12.
Then, after we cleaned up from breakfast and the children had a little free time, I took them one at a time for just 5 minutes each and we started in on the BOB Books that Beckie gave us.
Josie took just 2 minutes to figure out all the words in the first book.
Katie was not nearly so confident. She questioned me at every word, but she read it. And she felt proud!
Sarah and I read the first of the Alphabet books together. Then, she went through and retold the little story to me. She really enjoyed the time and I have no doubt that she will fly through these!
Today, we learned a few sight words and we went through another book each. I am amazed and awed by how quickly they are learning to really read.
I really do love this job!
