i was really craving some tonight. I would have felt so guilty, though, between spending all that money in gas to get there and all the greasy gookiness wouldn't have made me feel very good about eating them. So . . . I decided to try making them myself. I had seen something on the Food Network about how they make them and it was fairly easy to reproduce the flavors without all the nasty extra grease!
First, I sauteed some onion (one large onion diced) in a large fraying pan with a few tablespoons of water. . . no oil. Then, I took my little beef patties, squashed nice and flat, and laid them on top of my onions to cook in the steam. Put a lid on and wait a few moments . . . I sliced some long buns I had in half and then cut them into three smaller pieces to replicate the little buns at White Castle. I flipped the patties over and laid the buns (tops as well as bottoms) over them to warm up the buns in the steam. Took the buns off, put some onion on the bottom bun, a pattie, some ketchup, pickles and the top bun. TaDa! That's it! Easy and delicious. And really good at fixing that craving!
