My shiny sink . . .

Jennie told me quite a while ago about Flylady.net. I subscribed to her e-mails and read them, but never really got going until this month. It hit me in the middle of August that if twins are this much work . . . it's going to be crazy when the new baby comes and, especially since this is going to be a difficult pregnancy, I need to get my house running a lot better than it's been.

So, starting September 1st, I started shining my sink every night before bed, just like Flylady told me to. ( I only missed one night when I was feeling horribly sick. And you know what? My sink was still shiny in the morning! Sam cleaned it for me!!) Then I started on the laundry. I had a lot of it piling up, but now I'm down to just a few loads left and they should be caught up by Friday! (I'm not very good at putting away clean clothes, so I try not to give myself too many in one day!)

Yesterday, after seeing my pretty counters and shiny sink (up to now I haven't really liked my counters. They are a fairly ugly light blue formica kind of thing . . .) I decided to get rid of a bunch of stuff and straighten out that kitchen! So . . . with an extra bookshelf mommy had and a deep breath I started in on all the clutter. I still have a few spots left, but the difference in this kitchen is quite dramatic. I'm beginning to like it! And I'm not embarrased by all the dishes when someone comes over. There are no dirty dishes in my sink . . . ever!!

I'm so excited about the progress in that room that I'm looking forward to starting in on the rest of the house! Today, I'm going to start with the living room. It is usually covered in papers and toys and I'm not really sure what else . . . but whatever it is, it has taken over and I would really like to have a nice place to sit and relax when my husband comes home from work!

So thank you Jennie for telling me about Flylady. And thank you Flylady for all those endless e-mails I ALMOST stopped you from sending me. . .

Sandie,
If you start eating dinner at the table every night, it will change your family dynamics, also! Make cleaning off the table a priority! It worked for me!

One of the hardest things for me was convincing myself to put it away after I'm done using it. Whatever "it" is. It only takes a moment, and then stuff doesn't pile up because you've put it away already. I'm horrible, mostly, with filing my bills and other paperwork. But I've started filing them as soon as they are paid and I no longer have the clutter on my desk. I do confess, I let the dishes sit overnight sometimes, because I just don't feel like washing them! But I usually get to them the next morning!

Good luck with it Sandie. I hope it works for you. It really is amazing how much more you can like ugly stuff when it's clean!
