Melted Mommy

Katie came in to snuggle me before the first rays of the morning sun had begun to sneak in around the curtains. She whispered excitedly in my ear, trying not to wake her Daddy.

"Mommy! I had a wonderful dream!"

"Really?" I said. "What about?"

"Santa!" She paused for a moment. "I really love Santa, Mommy."

"Yes." I replied, smiling. "Santa is a wonderful person."

I began to doze, snuggled in her loving warmth while she laid there, thinking. A few minutes later she touched my cheek.

"Mommy!"

"Yes sweetie?"

"You know, I love you more than I love Santa." She had such a smile on her face. She gave me a hug and nuzzled herself into my neck, and we enjoyed the rest of those precious early hours, whispering back and forth and loving each other, until it was time to wake Daddy.
