Our Rainy Day

It feels so very good to be home all day today . . . It's raining outside and there's not a thing I have to do out in the world. I get to stay all tucked in and cozy with my babies and we've been having lots of relaxed fun!

The last few days were pretty stressful on my little ones. We weren't home very much and they met a lot of new people. Josie has very little trouble with new people. She'll look at them for a minute waiting for them to smile, and then she just beams right back at them! Katie has a little more trouble than Josie. She tends to be more fearful of new people, especially men. So when Uncle Don, Aunt Sugar and Aund Lois came on Monday, she had a little bit of trouble. Expecially because Uncle Don wanted to hold her and she wasn't quite ready for him to. She was okay with him by the end of Tuesday, though she still stares at him a lot.

Monday night, I guess because of her stressful day, Katie didn't want to sleep alone. So, she joined Sam and I for the night. We don't usually sleep with a baby . . . we have a queen sized bed and it gets tough to fit both of them in there . . . and how do we choose who will spend the night? But Tuesday night, Katie picked for us! She is very squirmy most of the night. I didn't realize just how much moving around these babies do, but she only had about 2 1/2 hours where she was really asleep and not moving everywhere. Then . . . she woke up at 4:00 . . . wide awake and wanting to play when her Daddy and I were horribly exhausted. She fell asleep again around 7:00 . . . right when I had to get up.

Tuesday morning I brought the babies to Mommy's house where Grandma and the Great Aunts watched them for me. I went to my ultrasound (which came back great! My little one was all kinds of squiggly in there, so it took a few minutes to get what we needed, but everything is still fine), I went to the Farmers Market to get veggies for the party that night, and I went to Party City to pick up all the balloons we got for the party (that's the reason the girls couldn't come with me. . . . they would have been drowned in all those balloons!). Then . . . we all went over to decorate the fire house and get ready for everyone to come. I wasn't going to change for the party . . .I had jeans on and and nice black maternity shirt (one of my favorites as it can be quite dressy looking), But then Josie spit up a lot all over me about an hour before the party. . . so I had to run home to get changed. I really wanted to stay there and go to bed, I was so tired, but back I went. It was a very nice party and Uncle John was just thrilled with the number of people that came. There were about 75 people there when he thought there were going to be 20 or 30 people! I think he may have been a little bit overwhelmed. The Mayor proclaimed October 11th, 2005 to be John Ricker Junior day and had a very nice proclaimation to read. All in all it went very well.

Jess . . . it's okay that you weren't there. There were so many people that I don't think Uncle John would have known what to say to you other than smile and hope he recognized your face. I went over to wish him a happy birthday and got kind of ignored. Just too much for him to take in!

We didn't get home until after 10:00 and the girls were beyond their limits! They fell asleep around 10:45 and Sam and I followed right behind them. Fortunately, they both slept very soundly all night, and so did I! I didn't even hear Sam get out of bed for work in the morning!

We do have one place to go later today, so our relaxed rainy day won't be totally spent here, but I'm looking forward to it. We are going to Sam's moms for dinner which will be really nice. We don't both get to go there very often. I'm there more than Sam is, and I'm not even there very often! It will be nice to see them and it will be a lot more relaxed than all the stuff we've been doing lately!
