Our New Little Bundle

Sam went and got his blood test today, so now we just have to wait a few days for the results. For those of you that I haven't spoken to lately, here's what's happening:

When my clinic did routine lab work for me last month, they found three antibodies in my blood. Normally these aren't a problem . . . unless you are pregnant! If the baby has the antigens to match my antibodies (quite likely if Sam has the same antibodies, hense the blood test for him) my antibodies can cross the placenta and attack the red blood cells of the baby as if it were an invader, potentially creating some difficult issues. I'm told that the remedies, if this is the case, are to monitor the baby for signs of this happening and if the baby should become too anemic, they can either do a transfusion for the baby inutero, or if the timing is right, we can deliver early. Unless I am willing to do an amnio (which I've ruled out unless absolutely required) there will be no way to know for certain if the baby has the antigens or not. So . . . for now, even if Sam doesn't have the antibodies, they are going to be monitoring this baby very closely.

The doctor thinks that the antibodies came from the blood transfusions I had to have after my last pregnancy. I was very anemic going into the C-section and afterwards, they had to give me two transfusions. It's also possible they came from Sam, but because there were three, instead of one, she thought that very unlikely.

Anyway, I'll keep you updated on the goings on in my tummy! I can feel the baby kicking and it's a really neat feeling. Last time, I didn't realize what that little bubbly feeling was!

Lots of love to everyone!!

Wow! A little scary! I didn't know you had transfusions after the twins were born. (At least, I don't think I did...) I will pray for this little baby, and for you.

With love!
