Someone foolishly gave the children a notebook and a pen in the car, thinking, I suppose, that they would have fun and feel grown-up and important to have such implements at their disposal. Obviously, no thought was given to the fact that the children are little and given to experimenting with things. Sarah discovered that her pen makes very lovely lines on her legs. Katie discovered this too. Josie wisely watched her sisters and avoided making the same mistake.
